Soundbar Skywave X70 - My endgame Atmos setup?

First off, please accept my apologies for the delay in posting this review! This time of year has been absolutely insane. Between being tremendously busy with work, coordinating a massive Halloween for three incredibly excited kids, and then immediately rolling into celebrating two November birthdays, I’ve barely had a moment to catch my breath! Trust me, the wait was worth it—I needed the time to truly appreciate what Ultimea has accomplished with the Skywave X70.

For context, I’m an avid gamer and I’m coming to the X70 after spending a fantastic year with the Ultimea Poseidon D60 5.1 Dolby Atmos system. The D60 was great, but the X70 is on a completely different level. This is my first real experience with a 7.1.4 system and dedicated up-firing height channels in the surrounds, and I'm honestly still awestruck.

1️⃣ Unboxing and Appearance – First Impressions? 😍 The first thing you’ll notice is the size of the box—it’s a monster! But that’s because the components inside are just… more.

The Subwoofer: The 10-inch Gravus Ultra-Linear Subwoofer is a beast compared to the D60’s 8-inch unit. It looks imposing, sleek, and immediately communicates that this system means serious business for low-frequency effects.

The Bar & Surrounds: The main soundbar itself is beautifully finished and feels incredibly solid. The new design elements, especially the recessed up-firing speakers on the main bar and the tops of the wireless surrounds, look premium. The surrounds are larger than the D60's, which is expected as they now house their own dedicated up-firing drivers, making them true 7.1.4 components!

Verdict: The design is a major step up. It's a more substantial, premium-looking system that feels worthy of its flagship status.

2️⃣ Installation and Connection –

If you’re familiar with the D60's 'plug and play' philosophy, the X70 is even smoother, despite its complexity. Wireless Simplicity: The system connected instantly. I simply plugged in the main bar, the massive 10" wireless subwoofer, and the two wireless surround speakers (which now run on a dedicated Dual 5GHz connection for rock-solid stability). Everything paired automatically. No confusing menus or dropped connections.

HDMI eARC: Connecting my Xbox Series X through my eARC port on the TV was flawless. The system instantly recognized the Dolby Atmos signal.

The App Experience: The Ultimea App is a game-changer over the D60's simpler controls. Being able to fine-tune the 10-band EQ (for that perfect gaming sound profile!) and dial in the specific levels of the side, rear, and height channels is absolutely clutch. I highly recommend using the app to dial in your room perfectly.

Setup is ridiculously easy for such a powerful, high-channel count system. The app takes customisation to an elite level. This is also my first real hands on with the Ultimea app considering that my model of the D60 didn't support the Ultimea mobile application!

3️⃣ First Listening Experience – What was my "Wow" moment? Well immediately after powering on the X70 and being greeted by the delightful power-on chime! 💙😅 Seriously though; where the X70 doesn't just improve on the D60, it obliterates the competition in its class. My true "Wow" moment happened 30 seconds into my first match on Battlefield 6: RedSec. With the D60, I got great surround sound—bullets whizzing past, enemies behind me—but the soundstage was largely on the horizontal plane.

As a helicopter flew overhead, the sound didn't just move from front to back; it traveled up and over me, thanks to the four up-firing channels. When an artillery strike landed, the booming thump wasn’t just a rumble from the sub; you could physically feel the sound pressure shift in the room, and the explosion's shrapnel sounded like it was falling from the ceiling.

Gaming Immersion: With Battlefield 6, I was literally awestruck. The D60 was immersive; the X70 makes you feel physically present in the game world. Hearing a sniper's shot travel from the distant horizon, across my head, and hit the dirt in front of me via full 7.1.4 Atmos was the moment I knew this was an elite-tier system.

4️⃣ Feature Highlights – Your favorite feature? 🌟

While the 10-inch subwoofer with its 20Hz low-end response is fantastic for those room-shaking explosions, my favourite feature has to be the 7.1.4 channel count and the power of the NEURACORE Engine...

True 7.1.4: This is what separates it from its peers, including the D60. Having two dedicated height channels in the main bar and two more in the surrounds means the overhead sound effects are precisely placed, not just an "effect." When I run for cover under an awning in RedSec, I can hear the rain distinctly hitting the metal roof above me...

Game Mode: The dedicated EQ mode instantly sharpens footsteps and makes dialogue crystal clear without sacrificing the overall impact of the bass. For competitive gaming, this is invaluable.

X-Upmix Function: For non-Atmos content the X-Upmix feature is surprisingly effective at expanding the soundfield, making even basic 5.1 tracks feel more voluminous and engaging.

5️⃣ Summary and Recommendations 🦾🦾

Would I recommend the Skywave X70 to a friend? ABSOLUTELY! No matter if that friend is a total cinephile/audiophile tier enthusiast or the average person ready to move past basic soundbars or older systems into the realm of true object-based 3D audio. It’s truly an investment that pays off with every session.

What a review! 🔥 You can feel the care and level of detail in every section: from that 10" Gravus sub that commands respect at first sight, to the true 7.1.4 magic with up-firing drivers in the bar and the rears, plus the app with a 10-band EQ and NEURACORE fine-tuning every channel. The Battlefield part gave me goosebumps—the real sense of height and the pressure from impacts is described brilliantly. Also love that you called out X-Upmix and Game Mode with a clear focus on footsteps and dialogue.

I’ll admit I’m left really wanting to own and experience the X70 too 😭; after reading you, you’ve fully convinced me it plays in another league. Can’t wait for your video on Unboxed & Unlocked to seal the deal!
