I totally agree with both of your points, and here’s a practical, straightforward fix in one go. It makes complete sense for the soundbar to let you adjust the rear block (R+L) as a whole to compensate for distance. I’d ask the team to enable this via OTA/app as a “Surround Level (Rear Block)”...

As a user, I think controlling each rear speaker separately can be counterproductive if you don’t have audio know-how: it’s easy to unbalance the scene and lose surround coherence. I do understand some users find it useful—every room and listener is different—but in my case, with the Skywave X40...
